Thread: MTS & Gear

    Default MTS & Gear

Do you MTS suffers keep separate vacuum hoses & nets for your tanks? I was doing a water change and it occurred to me that maybe I shouldn't be using the same vacuum syphon for both tanks..

I have 2 different sized nets for my tanks, but interchange them and my python when doing water changes.

I just give them a good rinse when they're done.

Some equipment I rinse with some boiled water
    juwel rio 180
, 6 odessa barbs, 9 neon tetra, 3 keyhole cichlids, apistogramma cacatuoides, countless shrimp, apple snails
10G (dozens of) blue pearl shrimp
    70L with jewel cichlid female
7G tank 12 CRS (more like 60 at this stage)

Ha ha , I actually use an old garden hose for my 125 cause that way I can stick the other end out the back door when I do my cleaning/water changes. I use a regular syphon/vac for the 90, but only because my wife would have a fit if she saw a "fish hose" going across the bed and out the window. Otherwise I'd use the same old hose. There really isn't much need to have seperate equipment for each tank unless that equipment just isn't suitable for the job at hand. Just more stuff and the need for places for that stuff. Also there is no real need to sanitize your equipment with boiling water unless you have some kind of crazy diesese outbreak. Just hang up the hoses and let it dry out and it'll be fine.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

I use the same python for all my tanks, but I have spererate nets for each tank. The different nets are more to deal with the type of fish though, i.e. angelfish tank has a long handle with a BIG net, tetra net has a long handle with a small net. you get the idea.

That's how I've been doing it so far...

I keep separate equipment for Clean/Dirty water as well as separate nets for each tank. With how cheap they are I don't see a reason risking transporting anything nasty from one tank to the others.
Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years.

I have a bunch of nets.. they all get swapped around.. use the same syphon hose for everything, just rinse it afterwards...

I am glad the warm weather is here I can start to use a garden hose out the door again to do my water changes.. no more filling up old water cooler jugs haha
