Tanganyika Shortage?

I ordered some calvus from my LFS last week, the shipment came in this week.. no calvus! My dealer told me the warehouse he buys from didn't have any.. the warehouse THEY buy from didn't have any, and they couldn't get a hold of any in the COUNTRY right now... pretty crazy.. anyone else in the states having these sorts of troubles?

maybe it's the time of year?? some fish aren't available in certain seasons. I know calvus aren't the most common fish, but I had no problems finding some and we still have some for sale here.

I haven't had trouble finding tangs, my problem has been finding them at a reasonable price. I picked up my gold occies back in april for 12 bucks (-30%, whatever that is), saw some regular occies the other day at the same LFS for 14 bucks a peice, so maybe there is a problem right now. They only had 3 species of tangs in (they usually have about a dozen), but they did have calvus, so they're out there.

my LFS owner was explaining to me today that a lot of the places in africa and around the world put bans on catching fish in certain areas during a certain time of the year.. although he said they only last a few months, its funny how it reaches all the way over here, but alas, I have given up the search for a calvus.. I'm becoming more interested in the tropheus variety.

He said way back (I forgot the exact location.. wherever they get upside down catfish) had a trade embargo against the US, so in order to get an upside down cat fish (at the time) they shipped it from (wherever they originally came from) to germany... to japan... and then finally to the US.. talk about a price hike.. thats also quite a trip for a little fish!

I would think captive-bred F1 and F2 alto. calvus juvies should be somewhat readily available (and considerably much less expensive than larger wild-caught specimens), though I guess that availabilty would vary from region to region.
