oscar in 55 G tank ?
at a local fish shop their is an oscar that has been stuck in a 10 G tank for about four months. It looks almost fully grown ,about 10 inches.I am starting to feel sory for it.It looks very unhappy and just sits their and dosent move at all.
first i am going to see if i can find someone else to buy it but if not can i buy it and put it in a 55 G by itself ? i know it should have a 75g plus tank but at least 55 gives it some room to move and be comfotable.

If you have a 55 for only the Oscar than go for it!
You may think about another tank soon though.10" is half grown to most Os!
It is much better than a ten gallon tank.
Will you be able to cycle the tank with some used media?
Leave it at the store until you have a cycled tank ready.Ray

This is always a big issue, but if it is stuck in a 10gal go and save it and put it in a 55. If you need help finding a home for it, I have some ideas where I know you can get it a good home. Be free to pm me! Just make sure the tank is cycled..

Red is correct--this discussion is always challenging, so I will preemptively say that we expect the conversation to remain civil.
An oscar in a 55--my opinion is usually no simply because of tank dimensions. Here we are going to try to keep a fish that will become longer than the tank is deep (front to back I mean). Not even enough room to comfortably turn around.8 tanks running now:
1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

Wow a 10g really? No wonder he looks unhappy! I would be too! That is cool that you are going to rescue it! I think yes the 55g will be ok for a bit, way way better than his current situation!
A word of caution..........look him over well before you do buy him. Being in a small tank may not be the only reason he is not moving around much.Gayle

Gayles right! That fish may have other issues from not being able to swim or move as they like to.Stress from being in that small tank may have also taken a few years off its life!

first i am going to check on a Australian forum to see if someone can find a better home for it.
I agree that a 55 is not ideal , however after seeing how miserable it was in a 10G that had lots of sand in it i have no doubt it would be better in a 55G.
I have kept an eye on this fish praying that it would get sold , now I am worried about what might happen to this fish if its not sold soon.
I checked for any holes in the head, didnt have any.cant see any other problem.its going into a tank by itself so it wont give something to another fish
thanks for thelp

lol We all agree that your 55 is better than the ten!
This fish may go through a growth spert as soon as it gets comfortable in your tank which is why we also recomended looking for something bigger down the road.A 75 is perfect for an Oscar.Ray
