Livebearer Genetics?

Is there much known about the genetics of livebearers? Particularly regarding color and patterning?

I'm used to angelfish genetics where there is a lot known and I've had trouble finding reliable information about platty and guppy genetics online. If anyone has any resources they could send my way I would really appreciate it.

I haven't seen much on their genetics, even as simple as what is dominant and what is recessive.

When breeding I prefer to keep it varied. This keeps them genetically varied which means they are hardier and more likely that some of them will make it through just about anything that happens. I also like it becuase that means it is neat to see what you get each batch. With line bred fish you are basically inbreeding, like pure bred dogs, so you limit the gene pool. Anyone who has taken a Biology class should have red flags popping up at this point.

I do the same thing with guppies, platies, guinea pigs, mice, convict cichlids, etc.
