Sad to hear. I had an oto die on me for no reason after I had had it for more than 6 months.

so after I wrote whoever posted this first and then read this...my otos just stopped doing anything.....this morning he had lots of color....he was eating..and now his color is gone and I'm not sure if he is dead or not....are these fish common to die easily in a newly set up tank?!

They are very sensitive. People say that if you're able to keep your oto past a couple months, you've gone through the hardest times - whether your tank is new or not. Regardless, hopefully the tank they're put in is cycled! :)

I've kept otos before with not too much of an issue. I did lose one after several months, but the other was with me for quite awhile! It's common to lose 1 or 2, so hopefully my other one will make it. :) He seems to be doing just fine.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words.

This is very true. I've had an otot in my 20L for over a year with no problems.
Every time I try to give him some mates, they die on me. Lost 2 this way.
When in doubt, do a water change.

Yeah. I thought about getting another one to keep the little guy company, but I don't want to risk having another one die on me.
