  1. Default A question? Shrimp and cycling a tank?

If shrimp are such a small bioload on a tank, and you are planning a shrimp only tank, how do you keep it cycled?

Is that a dumb question? You can smack me with a "duh" sticker if you have one.

I have a shrimp only tank. I haven't had any problems at all.

    LOL! No "duh" sticker. :)

The amount of nitrifying bacteria will adjust itself to the amount of bioload in the tank. Also, uneaten food and decaying plant matter will contribute to the ammonia needed to keep the tank cycled.

So, do you "shrimpless" cycle first? Seed with used filter media?

I've read they can be sensitive to water conditions?

Seed with used media if you have it and you will be ready to go.

I used seeded media plus I had a couple of black skirt tetras in there for a month before I put in the shrimp. I probably wouldn't have had to, though, with the seeded media.
