so many fish so less tanks
So i was walking buy this swamp on the side of my house and some guys set up some crawfish traps i noticed the traps and couldnt help myself to pick them up so i did. the first one had a few crawfish and one mudpuppy (as we call them) the next one i pulled up was crazy it 2 huge mudpuppys and then i saw a catfish i went crazy, it was a 9in. yellow bullhead. ive caught them a few inches in here but i was surprised to find one so big. And so of course i filled the ice chest with warm water put a rock a few wild live plants 2 pieces of driftwood and of course the catfish. Its onlty temporary until i find out what i want to do with him the problem is im worried he would eat my cichlids.

well darn
hrm could you get one of those kiddie wading pools or one of those pond liners to put him in? I'd be worried he would jump out of the wading pool but my brother-in-law bought one of those big black pond liner things- it is rigid and stands up - it is not collapsible - it is roughly the size of two 30 gallon rubbermaid trash cans put together but about 3/4 as high... he keeps his red eared sliders in that for now.
maybe you could find a large plastic tote with a lid that you could drill/ cut for a filter for him... at seven inches long, that bad boy is going to need some serious room to move...
or you could return him to wherever you found him. might be better quality of life than keeping him in a tank forever. (I know people will scream at me for this)

It needs a quarantine tank for a while!
If you didn't have the tank you should have let it go!Sorry!
You could always get something set up and go get a nice one.It sounds like you have your pick of them.Ray

Were these traps on your property? It's not to cool to be pulling up other peoples traps unless some jerk put them on your property, and then taking something from them. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I would advise heavily against pulling up other people's traps, you can run into some big problems there. I've worked on commercial and private crab boats before, and so i might be a bit biased, but pulling someone elses traps is comparable to trespassing, and taking something from them is stealing. If they were on your property I apologize for being harsh, and honestly I would have appropriated them for my own use. People have no right coming onto someone elses property and exploiting their resources, I don't know the whole situation, so...
No matter how much I learn or know I'm still gonna be a NOOB, but that doesn't mean I'm an idiot!

Yeah - if on your property cool. If not, well your asking for issues there! You pull up someone elses traps around here and they find you......

i agree with lobsternoob, if nothing else you should have just let it go. it doesnt belong trapped in a tank.
