Gar Information

I have read all the information about Gars on this website. IF anyone has any additional information they can offer, or has ever owned or owns a Gar, I would appreciate hearing from them.

There is one at a nearby petstore, around 8-10 inches, that I am considering purchasing.

On a side note, I tried to trade in some huge 14 inch Plecos for store credit, and they only wanted to give me 5 bucks a piece. I have had these things for like 6-7 years. Plus they were selling ones even smaller than mine for 40-50 dollars.

I will keep all posted on my Gar adventures

I wouldn't accept that low a price for your plecos. you can sell them privatly for more..

What where you interested to knwo about gars besides what it says in the articles?

hello, im getting a gar soon and i have a 20 gallon tank. i am getting a bigger tank soon probably around 40 gallons. would it be alright to keep a gar in the 20 for a bit. like a little one 5-6 inches. I put ph stuff i have a filter going, bubbles, and plenty of hiding spots what do you think? They grow to their capacity right?

Maybe but you know that it soon will outgrow your 40 gallon to. It will need a much larger aquarium within a year.

Some say that they grow to their capacity which would allow you to keep it in your 0 gallon for a longer period but I still think you should give the more room so that they can develop naturally.

my son caught a 3 1/2 ft alligator gar in louisiana and when we got home to clean it it had these clear like parsites tryign to embed themselves into the gars scales and just curious what they are they have tons of little legs[img][/img]

ok heres the picture of this parasite found on the garfish my camera wouldnt take it just right but anyway here it is dead lol
