  1. Default Convicts: the infamous unpleasent

So I've purchased a couple of convict fish... now what? I've searched the www for information on tank buddies and NOTHING! nothing absolute anyway. A lot of opinions and a lot of conflicting ideas. I plan on having a school of tiger barbs for my dither fish, but what else? Putting tank size questions aside; what works??

depends if you're keeping a breeding pair. If so, then they're going to harass almost any kind of fish. You'll have success keeping other medium sa cichlids if you keep the same sex convicts.
    Thar she blows!!!

If you have a breeding pair, those convicts will breed like rabbits and are known to defend their fry tooth and nail. Only keep tough fish with them. I've kept oscars and firemouth cichlids with them with success.

  4. Thumbs up

I've got four (2 male 2 female) in a tank along with 4 giant danios in a 29 gl. Had tiger barbs before but wanted something a bit shinny in there. But the barbs did fine with them and the danios do well also.
    29 gl. 4 con's and 6 giant danios.

It depends on your tank size. If you just like the look of convicts grow them out a bit and keep one male. They will get to a nice size and look pretty good. If you get a pair, they will beat/kill any other fish in a smaller tank.
