Need skimmer recommendations
I want to upgrade my skimmer. I will probably add a sump first (I will use an overflow box, probably a 20long, and an appropriate return pump). I have the Seaclone 100 and a Coralife Super Skimmer (65 gallon). Should I first try the Coralife in the sump (doesn't fit HOB if you have a glass canopy)? Or should I just plan on upgrading now?
If I end up not using the skimmers I have now, what would be the best in-sump skimmer? The tank is 40 gallons but I want to be able to overfeed without worries.
What are my options for HOB skimmers?
Thanks in advance.Owner: Aquarium Maintenance and Pet Care Company

Also, what are my options that I could use if I ever upgrade to my 75?

I'm using the coralife 65 in my sump (29 gallon display with 20 Long sump) I am very happy with it. It works great and pulls alot on nice, dark skimate. Water parameters are always perfect

I would recommend the Octopus skimmer line if you are planning an insump application. Another good skimmer is the ASM G1. My LFS uses these all the time on their accounts. I have no personal experience with them but I have seen them in opperation and they do a really good job.
The Coralife skimmers are hit and miss, some people have great success with them and others hate them because they have had nothing but problems with them.Considering a Marine Aquarium? A Breakdown of the Components, Live Rock, Cycling a Marine Tank

I have been doing a fair amount of research on skimmers and very few people are happy with the Coralife line.
Octopus on the other hand has very good reviews.
My new Octopus is on its way.

Which octopus would be the one for me? Which for the 40? Which for the 75? I am assuming all the octopus skimmers are in-sump only.

The rule of thumb seems to be go with the largest one you can afford or fit in your application , bigger is better.

I guess I got lucky with mine, lol. The only issue I have with my coralife is every month or so I have to clean calcium build up on the air intake tube, other then that its great
