Fluval Edge
Hi guys,
I thought I'd post on how my fluval edge has evolved over the past few months, from the original stock halogens, to MR16 LEDs to it's current CFL full MOD. I’ll post guides to these in the DIY section – hopefully some of you will try them out!
Here's my Edge's first incarnation on it's IKEA pretty stand!
These were taken three months ago after I transferred some stock from my old tank to this one - I hadn't really thought of an aquascape - I just used what I had available to me on the day!

Edge after the MR16 LED upgrade:

I had a bit of a problem last about a month and a half ago and my whole system crashed - I lost everything apart from a my peppered cory and a few guppies.
I decided that this was a good time to give the tank an overhaul, sort out my boring aquascape and change the lighting to CFLs. I decided to go for black gravel, three nice pieces of stone and some slate to be covered with java moss. There's a slight incline towards the back, left, to give the bed some structure. I also have two anubias, one growing in the back left corner and one growing in the front right.

Silly forum won't let me post more than 4 images per post!
Anyway, here's what we have now:

As you can see, the lighting is much better with the CFLs. I did try some coralife colormax bulbs which I got from the states but I popped them in this morning. The colour was really good, bringing out the reds of my cherry shrimp and endler's guppies but both blew - i didn't bother with a transformer to run them at the US 110v and so they burnt out really quickly with a horrible cracking sound!
With regards to stocking, we currently have 2x male endler's guppies, 2x female endler's guppies, 1 x peppered cory, 1x bublebee goby (Brachygobius xanthozona), 2 red cherry shrimp and one amano shrimp.
I'm looking forward to your comments!

Very nice before and after! I love those little tanks! I also like your Ikea stand...what is that a nightstand? Looks like it was made for the tank!

Big improvement. The first was OK but a little washed out for my liking. The Black gravel really makes everything else stand out.
Very Nice!

looks great... I really like that big rock of yours on the right side. And I agree... the black makes everything pop so much better than the light colored sand.
Feel free to post a full tank shot of your tank in my show off your Fluval edge thread. The more the merrier!31 Gallon Hagen Waterhome with 2 x 20W T8 6700K Life Glo tubes, Fluval 205 canister filter, Aquaclear 200W and Marineland Stealth 150W heaters, Hydor Hydrokable 50W substrate heating cable with Hydrostat thermostat, Hydor Ario 2 Blue aeration night light. @ Taralm13 - Yeah, it's a nightstand/bedside table - I thought it looked like it was made for it too!
@ everyone - thanks for your comments - if anyone has any ideas for a low growing plant to carpet the tank, i'd be grateful!
@ CGY_Betta_Guy - I popped one over there, i'll post more as this one progresses!

Beautiful tank!
When in doubt, do a water change.

Love what you did with the tank! Great upgrade with the black substrate. And thanks for the DIY - I too want to upgrade the lighting in my Edge and am still trying to figure out how! I notice you are using the Edge heater - how is that working for you? Have heard both good and bad about that heater and was afraid to use it.
Why do people always scream when I'm driving?
