What are they thinking.
I can't believe how insensitive LFS's can be. Last night I went into the local Petland to look for dwarf cichlids. Believe it or not the tank they usually keep them in was marked "Valentine Fish" and was full of what looked like mollies or maybe platies that actually had hearts painted on them. some hade "Love" and little hearts painted on them. I swear it looked like they held them down and used magic markers. I'm sure they don't care but they just lost a customer.

They're tattooed on the fish. Around here it seems to be blood parrots and always around valentine's day to make an extra few bucks. They've been doing it for awhile injecting dye into tetras and such... terrible practice and most people here boycott these fish... but alas, someone must buy them because there IS a market for them.

Well Petland has had lots of issues in the past too. All those run ins with peta and the puppy mills they were getting their pups from.

Yes. I can't stand the practice either.
But you need to complain to management,or higher (head office). Just not shopping there anymore (they won't know, or know why) or complaining to the staff won't do anything.

Think all the petlands are franchises, so are all managed locally. So complaints probably fall on deaf ears.

I cant believe that the animal rights group's have'nt stopped the practice of fish dying, over here we have an organisation called the RSPCA (The royal society for the prevention of cruelty to animals), now these guy's jump down someones throat and press charges against someone kicking a dog or bashing a cat or something like that, if they don't know about these poor fish yet then they will shortly, i'll send em an email and find out what's happening.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

Thats is a real shame, fish look beautiful enough as is, they need to just give a rock or heart or some thing with that painted on it instead of the fish.
