100gal built into the wall
We bought our house in 2001, and while the basement was "finished", it was hacked up. In 2003 I decided to start the remodel with moving a wall making the living area bigger, and then it hit me. Get rid of the 55gal, buy a bigger tank, and put it in the wall. I ordered a 100gal show (48"x26"x24"), which was the only size that would fit in the wall and allowing me to keep a door to the storage room. When the tank came in the demolition began......
Old 55 gallon.....

New 100 gallon waiting.....

Drywall ripped off.....

Once the wall was down it was time to start framing the new wall. I wanted to make sure not only the wall could hold the weight of full tank, but also any extra rocks, gravel, etc. I built the wall so if we ever sold the house it could be easily patched. So part of the tank needed to rest on the wall, and the other 90% on a stand......

Test fit.....

Over the course of the next couple of weeks I would gradually take water from the 55 gallon and place it into the 100. When the time came and the water in the 100 was right, the tranfer commenced.......

After the transfer all the fish did exceptionally well. I did lose 2 of them a year later (Parrot and Krebensis) from a diseased new fish, but the rest are still alive to this day.
Sorry for not having any newer pic's available as the scenery/background is much better now, but as soon as I get caught up on the work with the rest of the basement I'll give an update.Last edited by The Shield; 01-31-2009 at 11:58 PM.

That'll look great once you have the wall all patched up. I like your idea for having an easy way to patch the wall afterwards if you ever remove the tank. There was a post over on monster fish keepers where this one guy had like 10 tanks in a wall.
