10g plan
I picked up a used 10g today on craigslist. It came with an AquaClear 500. Is that an acceptable filter for the tank? After some googling it seems that filter is for larger tanks, but if I can use it on the this small one without any issues that would be great.
As for stocking, my plan (after fishless cycling) is to have 6-8 cardinal tetras and 6-8 pygmy corys. Is that too many? I am going to use black sand with some java moss and java fern.
Thanks!

The filter may cause too much current...Place sponge over the intake or a shield over the outflow if the current needs to be reduced.

If its a Aqua clear the flow is adjustable. The foam on the intake does help.
I like your stocking idea but you will need weekly maintanence with that many fish.
I'm looking forward to pics when you get it done!

So I went and picked this tank up over my lunch break and guess what.. it is NOT a 10 gallon tank. I do not have a tape measure with me but it looks like a 29g. (30 x 12 x 18) I am SO excited. I have to build a stand for it now, since a 29 gallon will be too heavy for the desk in my home office, but I have so many more stocking options available.
