Made me sick
I went to check out a new LFS last night and it was one of the worst things I have ever seen. First off it was in a old house on the wrong side of town that should of been my first clue. I walked and there is a smell of urine and poop. This is listed as a fish store mind you. I walk in to find a 55 gal tank of African cichlids with about 25-30 fish in it. Then i see cages with of all things puppies in them. Then i walk around a little bit more to find another tank that could not have been more then 60-70 gallons with ohh about 7 or 8 oscars that were at least 8 inches each. Every tank was covered in alage and overstocked with fish I was there for about 3 minutes before I was just so sick to my stomach I left. I feel so bad for all the fish there. Petsmart, Petco, and Walmart were a fish paradise compared to this place. The place is Dave's Tropical Fish in Toledo, OH on Lewis Ave. never ever go there.
55 Gallon - Angelfish Display - Aquaclear70 and TetraTec 300
20 Gallon - Tiger Barb - 2 AquaClear30s
10 Gallon - Betta - AquaClear20

wow, that's horrible. You know, you could report them to the animal humane society. They wouldn't care much for the fish, unfortunately, but those puppies could spark some interest. Just tell them the conditions, and if they find those puppies aren't being properly cared for, his business could be shut down or at least warned which may scare him into cleaning up (hopefully).
Let's hope that either he never sells fish again, or at least learns how to properly care for animals. This is my witty and clever signature. You like? :)

Sad!
I would call your local animal control or somebody and start there to get advice on how to close that place down. They can direct you. I've done it.

Possibly this is just management at this store and there is an owner somewhere that can be contacted, as well.

I dont get why people dont care as much about fish as a dog. Theyre both living and are basically helpless without us, so whats the diff?
One time, I boarded my 3 guinea pigs and bunny at a store where I was friends with the owners and got deals. After I came back, the animals didnt look good, next day, 1 guinea pig died, then 1 started to go downhill, and I took it to the vet. 500$ vet bill, and someone said " why do you do that for a 20$ animal?" Anyways, I paid for as much treatment as was possible. Cash was no object.
I was SO PI$$ED after they said that. what if it was a puppy? then, they would agree. Anyways, that one died 2 days later, and the bunny died 2 days after that. 1 guinea pig survived.
As for what caused the disease, they say that it was either some weird unknown virus, or the animals got such good treatment at my place that they must have had crappy conditions at the store.
And, the last guinea pig had to have antibiotics every 6 hours, so I got like 4h sleep/ night for a week straight. At least she survived and is fine.
so, theres my life story. lol

That is a shame. I have been to one or two places like that and it really does upset me. i just want to rescue all the animals in there, but by doing that i will be giving them business.. it sucks to see that stuff
