Python users I need advice
I want to get a python........
my brother in law is in the states for a month and I want him to bring one back for me, now my questions are
*would they work here in Ireland
*what excactly do I need (distance to the nearest tap is approx 8 metres)
* how much do they cost
* where is the best place to get them (option would be to buy them onine and get them delivered to his appartment)
that and any other advice you could share is more than welcome
thanks

The python is great...you're going to love it.
I can't see any reason why they wouldn't work anywhere that has running water. If the python hose that he looks at is not 8metres, you can buy extensions. With the proper connectors, if you're handy, you can just use hose from any hardware store as extension. I bought mine at a pet store...actually mine is not actually a python, but a "knock off" of the same system. I can't remember exactly what I paid, ( I think somewhere around $60) and price will depend on the area.

They look like this. One end screws into your faucet and the tube goes into your fish tank. Turn your cold water on and it suctions the water out of the tank. Close a switch and turn water on to the temp you want and it will fill your tank again.
They come in 25, 50, 75 and 100 ft.
I don't know what type faucets you have there. Are they similiar to ours.....regular old faucets with a little thing that screws into the faucet for giving a finer spray that is removed now and then and cleaned?Last edited by Lady Hobbs; 01-26-2009 at 02:25 PM.

You aren't kidding they're hard to find in Ireland. I can hardly find a store in Ireland that sells anything.
You could check Ebay for Ireland. This is called a "Gravel Vac and Water Changer." Walmarts have them or any fish place if your brother is in the US.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

he is going to be in boston, but I could order it online and get is send to his appartment, do you need a screw end on the 'faucet'? (learned a new word today
) because my tap doesn't have one.

There are many places that sell it, drsfostersmith.com, petsmart.com, petco.com, even walmart may have them. Think amazon.com might be one of the cheaper places for you order one, on the site type "python gravel" and it should bring up what you want. One thing you might want to do is to buy a spare facet adapter (the T shaped adapter that hooks to your facet, and hose). That is the piece on a python that is most likely to break. You can also look for a gravel vac made by Lee's, it's just like the python, but a different brand name.
You might have to get an adapter for the threads on the python to fit onto the threads of your sink. the python does come with an adapter, but you may have to go to a hardware store to find the exact one. I'm fairly sure your facet has threads on it. When it is dry, try turning bottom portion of it counter clockwise, it should come right off.
