Rummynosed+Cardinal
In my next tank 2 schools of 10 rummynosed tetras and cardinal tetras are in the stocking. Will they have a problem being with blue gouramis? I will provide hiding spots.

55 gallons. The only other fish in the tank will be dwarf loaches. It will be heavily planted.

I agree with this, anything smaller I would cut out one of those schools.

A 55 gallon will be okay for all these fish. IMO and IME you will need some surface plants to help the Gouramis to set up a territory and sight barrier.
Also these fish like to hide under surface plants.
Sounds like a fun tank.

For a surface plant could I get duckweed?

Duckweed would work..
Just be sure to keep an eye out that it doesn't start to cover the entire surface of the tank! LOL
It spreads quickly..75g - 20 cardinals : 7 panda cory : 5 Julii cory : 9 zebra danios : 1 CAE : 2 SAE : 2 yo-yos : 1 BN
25g: 5 long-finned zebra danios
