Unknown fish disease

One of my bettas has been exuding some sort of black slime for the better part of a month. Another betta I had died of a clear mucus. Although I've read up on every possible disease, none fits. I've been treating with malachite green, but so far to only limited effect.

I'll include some pictures so you can see the black mucous/slime and the fish in question (whose name is Thor).

Do you normally keep the fish in a larger tank with a filter because the small area and no airation can contribute to the disease

Eww yes that doesn't look healthy at all. mind you where they come from they live in Mud puddles, but even then they would get better airation from falling rain drops.. hehe.

I would put him in a glass betta bowl with a small air stone to allow bubbles and less slime water to form.

If that is in deed a Seperate tank you have going, maybe add a bit of gravel as well as a bubbler the gravel will displace the slime and hide it under the rocks, and your fish can rub around on them too. :)

It's a 'sick tank' for him. I change his water frequently, though. The little black things and slime you see is what he produces.

I don't know if him rubbing on the rocks will help or not - does anyone know what disease it might be?

I don't know but I would try treating for fungus. Don't know which fungus cause it doesn't really fit anything perfectly.

Also I would recommend adding salt to the jar and making frequent water changes.
