Piglet Squid - Just so cute!!

how adorable is that little guy?
scientific name is a helicocranchia pfefferi and this happy little guy was caught during a deepwater plankton trawl in the pacific ocean between los angeles and catalina.
they are the size of a small advocado and live 300ft below in the water

Oh my gosh!!! That is adorable!!! It's a cross between a fish and a pig...It doesn't get any better than that!!!

Interesting. I wonder how and what it eats. It's tentacles are so short and I don't see a beak, so it must be a plankton filterer. Probably won't survive, though, due to decompression damage.

Because of its deep water habit, little is known of the behaviour of the squid, although not surprisingly, judging by its body shape, it is known to be a sluggish swimmer.
The squids' bodies are almost completely clear except for some pigment-containing cells, or chromatophores, which give this specimen its distinctive appearance.

It looks too much like a cartoon smiling face... It's actually sort of creepy in how human the 'face' looks.
Hair, eyes, nose, and a little brown smiling 'mouth'. Kinda creepy, but kinda funny looking.

How bizarre, it looks like something directly out of Spongebob Squarepants.
8 tanks running now:
1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.
