All tanks created equal??
I want to upgrade to a larger tank size at least a 90 -125 gallon. I have been checking on the internet and there seems to be several footprints for tanks that hold the same amount of water. I was told I needed at least 100 gal tank for a fire eel..............would it matter if the tank was 60" long or 72" . They both hold the same amount of water but one is wider than the other. When checking out the min. tank requirments for various fish is there a specific footprint in mind?? I am confused.
125 gal 2 blood parrots, 2 angels, 1 gold gourami, 2 turquoise severums, 1 common pleco, 1 rope fish and someday a small fire eel
55 gal community tank with 7 bronze cories, 2 SAE, 6 platies, 2 angel rams, 2 dwarf gouramis, 1snowball pleco, 1 bn pleco, 1 rubberlip pleco and 1 yoyo loach
46 gal bowfront with 2 blood parrots, 3 three spot gouramis, and a clown pleco
55 gal 1 itty bitty baby oscar
1-15 gal planted with 1 male betta, 5 albino cories

Sharks and other fast swimming fish need a long tank.Slow moving fish seem to like area.
With the eel,I would think that as long as they can stretch out in the tank they would be alright. How many do you have?Ray

well I don't have any eels yet. I wanted the one my lfs had very badly (and still do) but after doing some reseach and talking to people on forums I didn't buy him because I only had a 55 gal tank. The people at the lfs said that size would be ok but everything I read suggested they needed bigger and I didn't want the eel to be uncomfortable .....but some 100 gal tanks are the same length as my 55 gal so I am confused as to what they need ...more length or a bigger volume of water

They may be the same length but they are wider and could be deeper as well.
Good choice. Its tough not getting the fish you want but maybe one day you will have that tank.Ray
