    Default Babies Have Arrived!

I went to the basement to turn on lights and found the first litter of Dominican red mountain boas had just been born. I was expecting 10, looks like 16 from the first litter, and another due any time now. A few weeks ago I picked up a 20 tub 6 quart rack to house the babies individually, thinking that would be large enough for both litters. Looks like I need another rack asap, lol.
Here's the only pic so far, moved them into a 10 gallon tank to keep momma from smashing the wee ones in the enclosure:

Ya, very exciting indeed, 16 live babies and no slugs. Becca was really thrilled. I was hoping the new enclosures from Animal Plastics would arrive before the babies, but I can make things work in the meantime. Most of them have shed, some haven't yet. It will be 2-3 years before they'll show their true adult colors. No super bright reds in these litters, this mother is all grey and black, other mother is a brown variant. Another year or two for the 2 pairs of uber reds to mature, though there will be some good reds among these babies. I saw a couple of orange bellies when I was scooping up the slimy little noodles to move into the 10 gallon tank. The more red they show on the bellies when they're born, the more red they'll show as adults. My first pair of yearlings were brownish with orange bellies when they arrived 2 years ago, now they're very red sub-adults.
I found nearly all of them in one big pile when I came home from work tonight. The 10 gallon they're contained in for 2 more days is sitting inside the mother's enclosure now to keep them warm enough. I'll have to get them out tomorrow and change out the paper towels. Should be quite warm enough outside then, would have liked to do it tonight but I'm worried about how quickly such small snakes will cool down outside of the heated enclosure. I'm probably just overly concerned since they're my first babies, after a couple more years and several more litters I'll be much less worried, lol.

Took the 10 gallon outside today to change the paper towels, much warmer than inside the basement. (Small tank stays inside the mother's enclosure for warmth, will be moving these into rubs/rack soon.)
Actual count is 18, 12 have shed, 6 are still dark and slimy.

    Congrats on your new babies!

The mother would smash them? On purpose or accident? I'm curious is all.
