Glass Lid

I have a 55 Gallon Long tank that has two plastic hood/light sets on it

Both hinges are broken, and the plastic hoods are like $30 each...

Was thinking about replacing them both with 2 of these

Could my current light fixtures just sit on top of these? And if so, would it look ok? My one concern is that the plastic hood has a place for the light fixture to sit to prevent it from moving, not sure if this does

Unless someone has an idea how to fix my hinges ;) plastic tab was broken off when I bought the tank used

I've got those on a couple of my tanks. Lights can sit right on top. There's nothing locking them into place like you say but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Measure your tank carefully before you buy those. Depending on the manufacturer of your tank and how the trim is designed, they may not be exactly the size you need.

Hang the lights? do you have the option to do that?

i have one of those versa tops for my 40b. It worked well, but It ended up being more a pain b/c of keeping the glass clean for appropriate light penetration for my plants.
also, b/c of the water moisture on the glass-it grew algae on the underside of the glass. so i had to clean it weekly.

however, the benefits-keeps water from evaporating so quickly, prevents fish from jumping out, and things from falling in.

so personal preference on that-some love em'. i may put mine back on and see if it stays more clean this time around.

Yea right now I have the plastic hoods, from rough measurements the 24's will fit, can't hang the lights (vaulted ceilings above tank)

But I like the idea of being able to trim / remove the back strip to cut down evap. But I will still have to have two holes for both HOB filters, and 1 for my heater
