What kind of fish was this?
While waiting to buy plants at the LFS, I noticed this fish swimming in one of the long low coral display tanks. It was blue and yellow and had a yellow circle/oval towards the back of it's body. Outside of the beautiful colouring and shape of the fish, I noticed it had extremely triangular pectoral fins that flapped upwards close to it's body when it swam. By the time I finally got waited on and got my plants, I forgot to ask what kind of fish it was. Any thoughts as to what it might have been?

How big was it, and what type of body shape did it have? How light or dark of a blue? Was the yellow oval towared the back the only yellow on the fish? If not, what type of pattern, if you can remember.

Geez, you expect a perfect memory LOL I'm going to say medium to dark blue and about 6 inches long. Besides the very triangular pectoral fins it swam quite close to the surface appearing to come up for air quite often. Oblong-ish body shape. The yellow oval was towards the back and if memory serves, for a change, I believe there was some yellow near the head of the fish. No real pattern as such.

Nope, it was not a s/w angelfish. Darn, wish I had not left the phone in the car--could have taken a picture, but then, had I remembered the phone I probably would have remembered to ask what kind of fish it was. The darker blue and deep yellow's were the blue and yellow on the fish that I saw. More blue than yellow.

Does the fish resemble any of these species?

I've looked at 3 marine online stores trying to find the fish, first stop was liveaquaria.com. Thanks for your help so far everyone! I'm beginning to suspect that it is either rare, endangered, or not suitable for home aquaria.

I was thinking it might be a damsel like one of Tigerbarb's links.

I'm pretty sure it's not a blenny. Similar shape to a damsel, but I don't think it's one. If I work at home one day this week, I'll have to get a picture and/or get a name. I'm just thinking that even if I asked the person helping me, she's not s/w person. There are only two of the staff that are knowledgeable in s/w.
