wow...
So today I was at work just getting done working on a project from a Joe Biden rally only to get beat up on a project someone else messed up and leave for me to catch the blame. I get a phone call from m roommate asking why my fish is on the floor. My oscar knocked the lid open and jumped out of the tank on to the floor. Not only did she hit the floor she landed on the surge protector. But she hit the switch and turned it off. I know that sounds wild but it is the only explaintion we can come up with. So we got her back into the tank andshe is covered up and weighted down.I added salt and a dose of melfix. Not only did this happen but I forgot my ID and got denied beer at Fridays but not to soon after we got back from that we noticed my pleco in my 55gallon was acting weird. At first I thought my JDs were messing with the fish but when I went to the tank it flipped out and laid flat on his back. I grabed him by his tail and put him in a clean bucket. He did not move other then a singal twich. I have air and meds going for him but I do believe he is gone. I am in no condition to mess with my fish. I have roles about that. Any input would be great I am still in shock. Thanx guys.

I think your surge protector shut itself off when it got wet but I'm wondering what do you mean by covered up and weighted down? Covering the tank I get but what's with the weighing down and what?
I also don't know why you added salt and melafix. Unless you saw signs of injury, this was not needed.
Sorry your post was hard for me to follow with the rally, Joe Biden, someone elses project on the floor, no ID and no beer, and fish problems somewhere in the middle. Too much information but then, it IS 3 AM here. :)
This one confused me too. (I am in no condition to mess with my fish. I have roles about that. ) Roles????????Last edited by Lady Hobbs; 11-01-2008 at 07:58 AM.

This did not happen and I do know that these things are easy to turn off. Sorry about the info drop I worked almost 24 hours straight yesterday because Joe Biden decided to vist the University of Delaware and I was the Network tech on stand by to ensure the network did not drop out. We could look bad in front of Joe Delaware Biben. And I have a RULE about drinking and messing with my fish tanks, I don't do it. Stupid things happen when you drink let alone mess with my little pride and joys. I have been volunteered to help with a 25 year aniversery party for my GF parents so I am not going to be home a lot today so keep your fingers crossed for me there is no excaping it. Thanx. Sorry for rambling again.

Ok I have thought about what I have done to my tank in the past couple days. First off I read an artical about saltwater in your freshwater tanks. This artical stated that the salt actually stresses the fish and making the fish produce an extra protective coat. But this coat is produced by stress wich I would not think that is a good thing. I wil be looking for this artical at a later date so I can quote it but for the time being I bring this up because I thought I could slowly decrease the amount of salt I put in my tank hopefully producing a better enviroment for my fish. My fish has had salt in her tank for three years now so I am thinking I flipped her out but I did not think she would react so bad. I also got a new filter for my other 55gallon so I the biowheel off that tank and put it on my oscar tank. My oscar tank now has two biowheel 350 for the filteration on a 55gallon the temp the last time I checked was about 82. The light is off now, I have a cover over the tank, and I put weight on her lid so there is no way for her to get out now. After I found my fish out of the tank I also unplugged the new filter I put on the tank but I cannot imagia what the filter would have to do with the situation. So don't know what the deal is. I am trying to get away from my GF family but they have been married for 25 years so this is kind of a big deal over here. I need the check my water perimeters but the last time I did so it was
ammonia 0ppm
pH 7.6ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 20ppm
So I don't know I feel that if I do a water change to soon I may stress my oscar more and do more damage.
