Links for Internal Filter DIY?

By chance does anybody have links for an internal filter setup like this:

you mean like and all in one setup or just a regular internal type of filter?

For an all in one style there was a guy on Monster Fish Keepers, I'll see if I can't find it here, who toyed with making a standard 5 or 10 gallon aquarium into an all in one with the addition of a sheet of acrylic, some egg crate, and a cheapy return pump.

Otherwise, just grab an inexpensive power head, like a Maxi-Jet, and a small piece of tupper wear, those lock'n'lock units are pretty cool. Cut a bunch of slots in the bottom of the plastic bin and a hole to seal the intake of the powerhead into in the top. Fill with filter floss/spongies and bio rings. Instant internal power filter.

a similar technique is used to make DIY external canister filters too. I read about that somewhere on here...

This isn't the one I was thinking of, I can't find it for the life of me, but this tank is basically what I was talking about.

I was looking at somebody's diy that was a lot like that, but i think i want to work something out that is more built into the back wall of the tank.

I think this photo helps a lot with visualizing the setup. I would think then that basic sump specifications would apply? It's pretty much a sump, just built into the tank, correct?

Yeah, that's all that it is really. Personally I like more of a baffle type of filter over the wet/dry m'self. On more of a standard tank I'd think that one end might be more useful to making into a filter rather than the entire back of the tank. However that's just me.

i'm picturing an acrylic box with a pond pump in it with chambers. But why would you want an intank filter? To maintain it you'd need to tear up the tank a bit or pull it out disturbing the tank some more. Seems to be a bit more hassle that it's worth????

The kind of "internal" filters it seems Ludo is going for are like the filters in an all in one setup with part of the display partitioned off into a sump. A setup like that wouldn't require pulling the tank apart to service.

I've though about this setup as a modification to a "river tank" manifold (from someone I can't recall from Loaches Online) to have an overflow at the down stream end of the tank similar to the AGA overflows in their reef ready tanks. This would also, IMO, increase the functionality of the directional flow such a tank attempts to reproduce.

Ludo, have you tried to build this or did you ever get good info in this type of built-in baffle filter? I'm looking at this for my tank as well.
