GBR & Checkerboard cichlid?
I have a GBR female in my tank, and when I went to bed last night, she was really round and had quite the red belly.....this morning, her and my Checkerboard cichlid male were swimming around together like they were a couple, and low and behold, she was empty. No red belly or roundness and her tube was out far!!! I could find no eggs on anything, but they could have been eaten by the corys!Laura

Checkerboards and Rams cannot breed together... they are from complete seperate families... it would be like a cow and a donkey breeding. I have no doubt they are very fond of each other and love being around each other as I have had different cichlids joined at the hip from seperate family's but even if they wanted to they could not breed together.
Rams also usually start breeding by picking a breeding area and cleaning and defending it a few days before laying.
