Thanks for the good info.
I am new to the hobby, so simplicity is going to help my success. The less I add to my water, the better. It will be easier for me to maintain a balanced tank when I don't add stuff. We want our next fish to be Mollies, so this is very timely. I always heard Mollies need salt. I know we also want clown loaches, so I was concerned about hurting one or the other, in regards to the salt. Load off my mind.

Great post...someone should show petco this, every single tank has salt in it and they have signs recomending the use of salt for all freshwater use

20 long frag tank
75 gal-planted goldfish
75 gallon mixed reef with 20 gallon sump

8 tanks running now:
1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

True, and the sad part is, even when smacked between the eyes with the facts, they still won't believe them.
