    Half gravel half fourite would be better than nothing, but more flourite would be ideal. The cheapest way to go would be Pool Filter Sand. It's $10 for a 50lb bag and looks great in any tank. It has bigger grains than regular aquarium sand, so plants can get rooted in it easily as long as you provide plenty of root tabs when you add plants.

    You shouldn't need a co2 system for those plants, but it can't hurt.

    Okay, we decided not to get stuff for a planted tank to start so we might get the stuff a month or two from now. I'm going to be starting an aquarium journal later today.
