  1. Default UPDATE: fry are growing and beginning to "take shape"

So now after a few weeks my angel fry are beginning to have the "triangular" shape of an angel. Some of them even have very long fins like the dad.

I started off with over 100 eggs (yes I counted LOL), and when they first hatched and swimming free I think I had about 70-80 fry. At this point I have 35 fry.

    Here they are:

A few of them exploring in a corner:

Dad comes to check them out:

A whole school followed dad as well:

It seems they will have dad's long fins.

As I observed them, there are already some bullies among them.

  7. Thumbs up lucky (smiles)

thats so cool. its fun watchin baby fish grow. i hope that i can get mine to survive. what did u feed the childern? my fry have eyes now and the egg yolks are shrinking. but they are not free swimin yet. they might be swimin by tomorrow. i have to work on tuesday night. so hopefully they will be ok. quick question my heater keeps on unstickin from the tank wall, does that mean i got to buy a new one?

I fed mine SERA MICRON, the LFS guy told me "its good stuff because its made in Germany" LOL. I don't know if this is good or not but it was not 100% success rate since I started off with over 100 eggs and now left with 35 grown children.

I know for a fact many fry died in the gravel. When they started free swimming many of them instinctively swam down to the bottom and met gravel, many will continue to squeeze down to the cracks of the gravels I saw quite a few on the side of the tank got stuck and cannot get out. I freed a few but I can only imagine how many got trapped that I could not see, plus at that time, if I tried to stick my hand in the tank to help, the parents will come at me.

I think this is why some suggested to separate the fry into a small. clean, nothing in the bottom tank, it will make it easier to feed. do water change and no one died of being trapped in the gravel. But I opted to keep the fry with the parents and watch them parent them, I think it was worth it, I don't think I would enjoy watching 100 fry in a 2 gallon jar growing up.

Now I am left with 35 - still too many to manage when they get bigger I need to think of a way to deal with it soon. Now they can eat my crushed up flakes and blood worms.

Here is a picture of the stuff.
