  1. Question lord help me

I have wanted a green spotted puffer for some time now. I was out of town in Austin. I stopped at a tropical fish store. I thought it would be just a small little store. It was so big and amazing. They have puffers for 7 bucks. I bought one.... Sighs...... Would he be okay in the bag until the morning or should I cancel all plans and head home for his sake? I bought him about 630 or so. They sold him as a freshwater. I read they are brackish. How do I set up a brackish water tank? Someone please save me from my hobby. I will post lots of pictures when I get home.

I can't help you with the brackish issue but I'm curious.. how much water is he in and how large is he. I've read opinions that they can usually only last for a couple of hours or so without being transitioned into their tank. I would expect it will depend on the level of O2 in the water and how much water there is.

tough call, I ship fish that spend 2 days in a bag.
lay the bag down to get maximum surface area

They had small, medium, and large. They put him in medium. He is about an inch and a half with half full water. I was thinking that they live through shipping. I wanted to make sure though.

I have a GSP fish. They are very sensitive to having very clean water. You will need to make weekly water changes. When they are young you can have them in freshwater, but eventually you will have to change to brackish water. Brackish means when the ocean water meets the river water. I use Aquarium salt in my tank. I also feed him frozen tuna fish steak. They like live food, i.e. snails, the size of the GSP's eyes, ghost shrimp. They have a beak, so they need to have crustacean types food, to wear their beak down.

I would put him in the tank ASAP!!!!!

just an update.... I canceled plans and came home. I read up on how to make a brackish tank. It said to put 2 Tbs of salt per gallon, and to add more when I do water changes. He seems to be doing fine. I am feeding him 50/50 frozen food. He is so cool to watch. People think I'm weird. I try and tell them I got a new baby, but they don't seem to care. I one more step to saltwater. Yay me!

the thing about LFS's(except petsmart) is that they just put regular air in the bags, with shipping and at petsmart, they put pure oxygen in the bags so they last a long time, even though you're already home, i thought it would be beneficial to throw that bit of info out there.

I was planning to make a saltwater. So I had a bag of sea salt. The pet shop I bought my GSP from told me to feed him everyday and a snail once a week. Is this true? Sorry for the late reply coco
