It's colours have faded, scales seem to be popping up, reddening of the gills, keeps to itself. I been noticing this for almost a week now, all my other Tetras are fine. Whats wrong with my neon?

The scales popping up sounds like dropsy.

Is it contagious to my other tetras? And possibly other fish in the aquarium?

I don't have a hospital tank. Besides meds, what can I do to treat the neon? I keep my fish in good conditions, I feed them NLS and I keep them with peaceful tankmates in a big enough aquarium. I'm puzzled how it contracted dropsy.

Are the scales popping-up all over the body, or just in the belly area?

From what I'm reading in the book "The Complete Aquarium Problem Solver," dropsy is characterized by bloating/scales popping over the ENTIRE body, whereas a condition called "egg-binding" (on a female of course, she isn't able to release her eggs for one reason or another), will cause the scales on just the belly to pop up.

Just something I read today on the way to diagnosing my Neons' troubles... for what it's worth...
Standard Neons, Green Neons, Black Neons, Cardinals, and not enough Blue Emperors.

    I really my fishes...

you could be right. She only seems to be "pine coning" in the belly area and in other areas she seems to be peeling. I just got back from work and she's no longer showing any normal signs... before, she was still active and ate with the others.. now.. she is still in a top corner and occasionally moves a bit.
