Another rock and wood hunt
With the snow to my butt here all winter, I try to get my wood and rock collected in the summer months. Yesterday it was rock collecting day and I got several more large rocks. Today I go on my bogwood hunt.
The last time I went to the river, I found several pieces of white wood. I have NO idea of what it is. It had no bark, was heavy and was sunk at the bottom of the water but what wood is white? It wasn't very attractive but I was wondering what it was.
If I'm not back in a few hours I will be tangled up in the river under some logs. Come and find me.

More than likely if it was white it is a pine of some type that has been bleached. It is bascally all we have up here in the rivers.

My hunt today netted not one single thing. I had lovely walks all along the river in the early spring but ......hello.........the foliage has now grown up to my waist and no way could I even get to the river.
I found a nice path thru the woods heading towards the river but a bit into it, my mind got thinking of bears and which one is it that you play dead and which one of them do you yell and scream and wave your arms? Since I couldn't remember, scaredy me went running back to her car. If I had been lucky enough to find some wood, I'd have had to carry it for a mile.
I then tried another river site.
Some cop stopped to see if I was OK. Guess it isn't everyday he sees some old lady with a handicap sticker on her windshield scaling a 90 degree angle rock wall to get a stick of wood.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

LOL LOL LOL The cop must have been wondering what the heck you were doing...I can just imagine the conversation in his head LOL Bummer to hear that you didn't score on rocks and wood.
Glad to see see you back safe and sound though--no bear attacks and no near drowning experiences.

Ya know, one of the city judges drown in that spot a couple years back. He was trout fishing and got caught up in the current. A couple people wanted to know if they dusted his bald head for finger prints. LOL

I kind of had a different picture of that conversation in my head....
Officer: Hey Lady are you alright?...
Lady Hobbs: Sure am Officer I was just collect some rocks and sticks.
Officer: Do you have a permit?
Lady Hobbs: a Permit?
Officer: Yes you must have a permit.. I case you didn't know the tree huggers felt that the woods are endagered and they got the courts to make the collecting without a permit of wood a federal offense..
Lady Hobbs: What about the rocks?
Officer: Oh we had to make those illegal because the Rednecks were throwing them at the Tree huggers.
Lady Hobbs: Is Oxygen still free to breathe?
Officer: Not of much longer have a nice day.....This posting was approved by:

Well, the traditional advice is that you yell and scream at black bears, and play dead for brown bears. Either way, you don't ever want to run, because it makes you look like prey (and a bear can easily do 25 or 30 mph over terrain, so it won't do any good anyways). Normally the sounds and talking of a group of people will alert any bears well in advance of your approach, but if you enjoy hiking alone in bear country, one thing you can do is pick up a bear bell to strap on your pack or clothing that will alert animals of your presence before you surprise them.

Perhaps it would be beneficial if I even knew what kinds of bears we had!
