Melafix is awesome and works really well. Not tried pimafix though.

Here's an interesting read. This person indicates that melafix/pimafix are great to try in the initial stages of infection, if the fish aren't too unhealthy.
However, in cases where the infection is advanced, true antibiotics are recommended because apparently, while mela/pimafix work on a lot of bacteria, there is no way of knowing which strains they don't work with. So by the time you figure out that your infection is resistant, it may be too late for the fish.Last edited by Commodore 64; 08-13-2008 at 11:11 AM.

I used Melafix only. It didn't work on a fish fungus and didn't work on my angel when he got burned from the heater. Didn't bother buying the Primafix because of it.

I usually use melafix and pimafix together. Uh I don't really know though how well it has worked for me. It did help my BNs hurt fin, but I actualy haven't used it enough to know how it well it works.

I've found they both work great. I had a Discus with an injured eye at one point and daily dosing of Pimafix helped clear up the secondary Fungal infection that set in and the Melafix really helped heal the eye. I keep both on hand all the time.

Melafix is anti-bacterial only, Pimafix is anti-fungal, which would explain why Melafix didn't clear up your fungus.

Ive used both. Melafix on an eye injury/potential infection. I seemed to help but didnt fully clear it up. Eventuall used maracyn 2. Used Pimafix on a fungal issue. Also seemed to help, but the fish died anyway. Perhaps it was too far gone before I even tried to treat it. I also have a turtle in the tank (I know this is a big no no) but the turtle is very lazy and typically has no interest in the fish. The smell of these treatments though drives him insane - full out hunt mode. I had to remove the fish with eye issue and keep her in an untreated hospital tank until the medication smell was gone. After that she returned to the tank without issue.
