  1. Question is conifer wood safe?

I found a really nice weatherd root (has been dead for at least 50 years) that I would love to put in my aquarium. However, it came from a fir tree. I have heard that resins in conifers can be harmful to tropical fish. Is this true?

I don't have any pictures yet. Just found the wood yesterday on a trip to Oregon. It looks very similar to the exotics that sell for over $100.

I don't think it will harm your fish. But you will have to anchor it down, somehow, I believe you will never make it sink, though, this is a very light type of wood.

I would not use fir wood. It is soft wood and may still have sap. And likely will never sink.
