  1. Default heater and filter

I was thinking last night and wouldnt it be a good idea if someone made a filter with a heater in it. Then you would always have new water getting to the heater and you wouldnt have to see the heater in the tank. Is there any reason why they couldnt do this.

It actually already exists. Eheim makes the thermofilter. They are canister filters. Not sure if there is a HOB filter with integrated heater though

I would be happy if they would come up with a filter that has a shut off and on. This crawling around the floor to plug and unplug for water changes is a pain.

That is a good point hobbs. The visitherm stealth shuts off when it is out of water...? It doesnt necessarily have a on/off switch but it would essentially be the same

It's annoying really. You could put a switch right on the cord but finding the cord would be interesting when it looks behind your aquariums like it does behind your computer. :)

Priming is not a huge deal when it takes a couple cupfulls of water but when it takes a gallon it get it going, my wall is getting wet, water is dripping off my tank.........grrrr.

reptileguy says the sleath shuts off and I will take his word for it.

you know hobbs if you put the switch right next to the filter you wouldnt have to look for it on the cord becuase it would be right there.

The TetraTec is a HOB with optional heater in it. The only thing is they are a big filter and don't fit on many tanks, I think only ones with a glass canopy and light strip, not the whole plastic hood. I think the stealths look fine and it should say on the package that they do shut off when out of water. I can tell you they still stay hot (latent heat or delayed shutoff I'm guessing) but they do shut off and then turn back on when back in water. I bring my water well below the stealths on my tanks and have yet to have any problems with them. They are shatterproof anyways.

Actually, all my plugs are inside the cabinet. Only one plug is coming out. On the interior wall of the cabinet, I have mounted sepparate switches for each equipment item; they are that kind of switch that have a red light when on. I only have to reach inside the cabinet to turn off one or all the equipments, including lights. I even have a fuse in there, for security reasons.
