Finless Corys (w/ pictures)
0
After getting a few more corys the other day, I realized quickly that there was one major difference between those ones and the ones already in my tank: those ones had (relatively) long, flowing fins. This morning I isolated the two smallest and most extensively damaged of my 7-strong albino school in a breeder box, but I don't know what I need to do now to help them regrow their fins.

You can't see it well here, but even their front fins have been reduced to little stubs. The larger corys are damaged, but their injuries aren't nearly as bad. I'm pretty sure that it's my tiger barbs that did this, but I just boosted their numbers, so I hope that will prevent any further aggression against my peaceful albinos... Any advice?

Maybe try some Mela- and/or Pimafix to help their fin re-growth until they heal?

Yeah it is probably fin rot. I would recommed using both melafix and pimafix together, also make sure to keep the water clean. Their fins should grow back in time.

And, probably best if you have a quarantine or hospital tank, else you have to dose the whole tank.

Cory's are one of the few fish I have never heard being nipped at by Tigers... like the above I am suspecting fin rot as well.

Try getting rid of the tigers.. From what I can see from people on these forums they are nothing but trouble.

I suspect that tiger barbs are trouble because folks have not done enough research before getting them and plonking them in with other fish without a thought to how it's going to work or with the hope that maybe, just maybe, it will work. Their social and unsocial behavior is well-documented. Understandably, when you see them in an LFS, they look like fun, charismatic, bubbly fish--and they are, pretty much on their own or with carefully chosen tank mates. With no disrespect to the original poster, you need to your research. If you aren't sure about your findings, come here and post a thread and ask questions.

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought about it, but it definitely seems like fin rot to me as well.
And fins_n_fur, I always check fish compatibilities before purchasing new ones. Barbs were said to be fine with corys, and, since this seems to be fin rot, still appear to be. Thanks though, you make a good point.

Yeah when I was researching about tiger barbs one of the recommended tank mates I often found was cories. But they are quite the fin nippers.

When I used the word "you" in the post, I was not meaning you, Yajimari21, but folks in general. It was obvious to me that you had done your research.
