  1. Default Help...identifying possible Ich

I rescued a GBR from my LFS today...I got him for free. Some of his tank mates were dead and I felt sorry for him. However, my good deed might have consequences...I noticed his tail fin is sort of pinched and he has one or two white spots. My temp is 83 and rising until I reach 85. I put about 3 heeping tsp's of API aquarium salt in the tank for my 24 g aquapod. I have Amano, 5 Panda Cory, 10 Cardinals, 2 otos, one juvie BNP, 3 A. Cacatuoides, and the new GBR. Here are some pics two show the white spot and to clarify if it is ich or I am over reacting. I usually do not rescue fish jeopardizing the rest. I did not see the spot until it was too late. I do not have a quarantine tank so at this point I want to know my odds. My inverts and Corydoras make medications the last resort...hopefully heat and salt will work. My tank stays right under 85 usually.
You can see the white spot by his tail

That salt you added may have some nasty consequences for your corys.Ideally you can get the gbr out and treat him in another tank,if not do not add any more salt.I have used ap products quick cure MANY times with my catfish all living through it.The best cure for ick is the fastest one and quick cure is just that. For safer results cut the dosage in half with catfish and tetra.BTW,I cant see enough in the pic to make out what that is.

I am keeping all the salt in a plastic cup if that helps...I used less than the recommended dosage. Can't have a Cory casualty...there my favs.

  4. Default

The white spot is gone...if it was a trophont it fell off and is a cyst on the substrate.
