Hello
I've been toying with the idea of setting up a fish tank for the past 3 months. At first I had it in my head that I wanted a FOWLR setup, but after reading for a bit and thinking about it I decided on starting with a fresh water setup and see how it goes from there. I have a spare 55g tank just sitting around the house so I think its time to put it to use. I've noticed theres tons of info around so Im sure any questions I have, or will come up with in the next few weeks have already been answered here somewhere.

You have a nice sized tank there to set up. How did you restrain yourself from setting it up earlier? LOL
I strongly hope you will do the fishless cycling using cheap, pure ammonia instead of fish. It's a horrible suffering time for them going thru a cycle and very hard on you with oddles of water changes trying to save them.
Also, check out the Free E Book on the left hand menu and that will help get your started.

Now I see why so many of you have more than 1 tank, soo many choices for fish, how do ya choose... guess with the multiple tanks you dont have to lol
before I started looking at some of the fish, I was thinking of going with a planted community tank, now I kinda want an unplanted tank with colorful fish, kinda like a saltwater look, blueish background, fake coral deco.... etc...
I would really like to have a lion fish, but I know thats not happening, not anytime soon anyway. and any eel would just freak my fiance out to the point where she wouldnt go near it, which wouldnt be any fun (also most of those I mentioned arent for beginners, as far as I know anyway)
Decisions, decisions.... as far as cycling, yeah I will do it fishless, so i dont plan on having actual fish anytime soon, but its fun even just looking
