do angels and neon tetra get along?
I wonder if my angels will get along with neon tetras? I am thinking of adding six neon tetra to add some colors.
However I have read that if your small fish can fit inside the mouth of the big fish the big fish will eat it?
I think the small neon tetra may fit inside the angel's mouth when it's wide open.
Should I?

There is a very high chance they will eat the Neons... especially if added later to the tank. The only success is usually when the Neons are already in and baby angels are added or both are added at the same time as young fish... even then a lot of adult angels will pick off the Neons 1 by 1...

If your angels are already big enough to eat a neon, they will.As fish stated if little angels are added with existing neons they will not generally see them as food later on.

depends on the angels, i had fullgrown angels with a school of small tetras and the angels left them alone, some people dont have the same luck

my angels already ate all my cherry shrimps! I planted heavily and had moss and caves and good hiding spots but eventually...
I guess the question is, is their mouth really big enough to eat the neons? If I just look at the angels pecking when they fight or feed, I would say no, their mouth seems small. However I have seen them "yawn" on rare occasions and they can really open wide.Last edited by MiamiCuse; 07-26-2008 at 06:26 PM.

I am not sure how to measure them.
From tip of fin to tip of fin, or some other reference points?
I have one angel with smaller body but real long fin and another with larger body with shorter fin so smaller overall body.
I would say from the tip of the mouth measured horizontally to the "beginning" of the tail (excluding the tail fin) is about 1.5 inches.

Now would be the time to give it a try.1.5" shouldnt be big enough to munch a neon yet.Get big ones, but dont get more then you can stand to lose just in case.

got 4 cardinal tetra and they are hiding now in the corner and under the rocks.
They seem to be very scared of the angels but the angels did not bother them at all. The angels for the most part circle around the middle and top part of the tank and the tetras are hiding down below.
When I feed the angels will feed near the surface and then proceed to feed from the flakes that sunk to the bottom, as the angels approach the tetra moved together to another corner.
I don' t know if they are really scared or this is just acclimating to a new tank.

Guess I mentioned it often enough already but I had 9 angels. All my domestic angels killed (not ate) my neons but none of my wild silvers did.
