You have them in a nice sized school then?
8 tanks running now:
1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

The barbels look rather stubby in the picture. Maybe the gravel's a bit harsh on them? Or could be just the picture...

No this fish just has a big belly.The gravel is smooth.I have found what people say about substrate and cories is a little exagerated.I think you would need very sharp gravel to actually damaged their barbells.

Yes, a little exaggerated. Substrate cleanliness and diet play a role in it as well. Either way they are not supposed to look like sticks. They are supposed to look like this: http://www.slimyfrog.com/40g/images/img_2150.jpg
