considering breeding bettas.
so, i really want to breed a fish on little space, and i was thinking bettas. i read the articles on it, but i dont quite get it.
1) they say to have the fry in 82 degree water, but they say to jar the males too. but, the water in a jar isnt 82 degrees....
2)do they really take 7 mo to get color?
3) what are the best foods for spawning couples, and fry?
and, go ahead and say anything else helpful, or if you think i shouldnt do it, thats ok too.

When I think of breading Betta's, a small space is not something that comes to mind, rather the opposite.

oh well forget that part, i meant that i dont want to breed a fish that gets huge, or needs a tank that is like 100 gallons to do so.

cool... and bettas seem fairly easy to rehome, as oppsed to oscars or whatever, cause most people dont have an empty 55g just laying around...
what did ya mnean by space, as a matter of curiousity?

I think he means how all the bettas will have to be in their own tanks eventually.

my bf bred his bettas -- let's see if I can remember some of what he did. I remember he had the male in one tank -- in that tank he had lots of plants and the water temp was at least 80 -- he put the female's tank beside the males for several days prior. The male began to "show off" and the both kept meeting at the glass --
The bf put in a cut in half styrofoam cup -- the male made a huge bubble nest under the cup. The reason for the cup was to keep any wind or such from ruining the next.
He decided to feed the fry baby brine shrimp -- so he made sure he had all he needed for his hatchery and made sure it was all set and ready to go.
It was one sunday morning -- he put the 2 together --- they chased one another -- and the male kept showing off -- finally the female would go up towards the nest -- it took them several attempts - but then the spawning began -- what a beautiful site that is -- they both are so colorfull. This went on for several hours -- she would release eggs each time. They both went to the bottom and picked them up and put them in the bubble nest.
I know he took the female out and put her back in her own tank. His weren't not as violent with each other as I have heard others tell -- the male then spent the next day trying to keep the eggs in the nest.
I was away for a little bit -- but when I got back he had tiny fry swimming -- he could only see them with a magnifying glass. He began to feed the baby brine shrimp.
We are not sure why but not all survived -- we now have only 4 who seem to be very healthy and happy!!!
I will add some pics as soon as I get them on my puter a little later to dayKim

well, that good i guess, cause the only reason i wouldnt give it a try, is that i really dont want to attempt to care for 500 baby bettas. do they normally have that many? i would honestly rather them have only like 15, but i dont get a choice, do i! is there any way they could have less fry? i wish.
but still, im reasaerching. if i was gonna do it, i might want to do halfmoons, or crowntails ( i am doing this for fun and experince, not for money.)
