I have four cory and they alternate between resting on the bottom (blinking every once in a while), scurrying around the tank bottom/sides/decorations looking for food, and every now and then, popping up to the surface for a gulp of air.

Don't know the textbook answer, but mine have been doing it since I've had them (9 months ago)....

They are some of my favorite fish....very fun to watch....

That makes me feel better then. They're so active sometimes that I figure they can't be doing too badly.

Yep, they sound just like our corys . . . like I said, real characters! If you're water quality's real good, and you have a male in there with a couple of females, don't be surprised if you start seeing cory eggs all over the glass of your tank. Ours started spawning as soon as we got them and continue to do so on occasion! LOL

Will mystery snails eat the eggs or the fish eat the eggs, because I have had 5 cories and never seen eggs.

Cories do breath surface air occasionally :) I just got 4 peppered cories a few weeks ago and I love mine, they really do have character.
