flourite q
I have a quick question - I got my new tank today and started setting it up. I put the flourite substrate in but now my water is very cloudy. I have been letting it sit for 3 hrs but it does not seem to be clearing up at all. This is a big problem - I only have room for one tank so I took down my other tank and moved substrate / cycled filters over to new tank. Fish are in temporary container with all tank decorations. Is the flourite safe for the fish? If not how can I get the water clear? I have cats and have kept an eye on the fish all day but did not plan on overnight housing. I could put a type of top with a bubble wand in just over night but would rather get them moved. TIA!

Do a big water change, lay a plastic bag in the bottom and refill. It will clear back up again sooner. It doesn't need to be totally clear before the fish go in.
The bag will hold the dust down quite a bit when you refill it. Turn your filters on after filling.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

Good luck with your new tank.
Good thing someone posted it here - I won't start a new thread. Sorry for stealing your thread. If I'm planning on setting up my new 35G planted, is fluorite gonna help? And is it gonna be less effective if I mix it with sand, cuz I'm thinking of getting Bolivian rams.
Thx,

Well it has nutrients in it and according to seachem they should last for a long time, but I have never used flourite yet. I an mixing mine with sand - sort of. Flourite will be in back of tank for plants and sand elsewhere for my fish that like to dig in the sand.

Yes and they even have Black Sand Flourite now. Looks like sand but contains the same nutrients as Flourite regular. Plants will always do better in nutrient rich soil than in plain sand or gravel.
