Got new plants for the 55g
While at the lfs a few days ago I broke down and bought a few plants. Some they gave me good sized portions of others not so much. All in all I only spent $12 on 3 plants. I got a small portion of Anacharis, and cabomba. Then I asked for some Corkscrew Val and received a nice portion of it with 7 runners with plants on them! Got them home and planted. The Cabomba has grown taller and the ends are turning purple! The anacharis doesn't look too good and didn't when I got it from the lfs. The corkscrew vals have grown a little taller and thicker. I also got some MTS as hitch hikers and put them in the tank as well.
I have no CO2 in the tank and it is a sand substrate. Also I purchased a female Apisto cacatuodes.
I have more plants coming as a package deal from a person on aquariacentral. He is sending me 5 Rotala rotundifolia, 3 Willow hygros, 1 Tropical sunset hygro, 3 dwarf sags, 1 Melon sword, 1 Anubias nana, 1 Crypt Wentii Bronze for $22 shipped. From another person on there I have purchased all of their cabomba from his 180g tank. He figures about 40 stems of it with established roots. So I will have extra and will probably be selling it to anyone interested!20g long 84w, fluorite, planted, 5 Habrosus Corys, MTS, pair of Clown Pleco (L104)
20gal tall: home to 10 brevis. Letting them pair off then will put the rest into the 55.

wow that's alot of plants.. Some of my anacharis are actually dying as well but some are thriving... kinda weird. I hope someone pro can chime into this issue.
I'm not a plant specialist, but crypts will probably require a richer substrate for better growth. Considering they are heavy rooters adding dry fert will be a good idea.
Uhh and post picciezzzzzz =DCheerz.

When I get a camera I'll have to post some pics. I'm trying to get this tank heavily planted so when I buy my apistos again they will feel more at home. I have thought about the dry fert thing but don't know much about it. Or where to get it for that matter.

I might be interested in the cabomba if you don't mind breaking the law when you ship it to me...;-)

Anachris can be hit or miss, alot depends on the hardness of your water. If your water is hard enough to grow anachris well you will have issues with other soft water plants. As for root feeders like crypts and sword just use root tabs such as those made by API or seachem.

I would love if any lfs around here had decent plant selections. I got so excited the other day just to find java moss (online i never bought cus it's always $5 or so + shipping) this nice bunch had algae growing on it, but the shrimp and snails love the extra feed. This bunch was $3.
Anyhow, I've been waiting for lfs vals since I joined AC. I want some for the "ludwiga/stemmy" half of my 20 long. I refuese to spend too much since I still have stock lighting and a solid hronwort floating cover.
I'm jealous, but can't wait to see some awesome photos of your tank!
Shrimp and snail junkie... What can I say, I like the little things in life.
