  1. Smile Fishless Cycling finally

okay oaky , i killed my fish.
i going to start fresh and use fishless cycle.
looks so much easier and quicker!.

    however just 1 question..
i have read about the process and know exactly what to do..tho
there is something that is very unclear.

Where can i get ammonia from?
    And what type of ammonia..?
Would my local fish shop stock it?..

    thanks for your time.

This is the way to go and I'm proud of you for choosing fishless cycling. Your LFS probably wont carry what you need because ammonia kills fish. However your local grocery store, hardware store, or Wal-Mart should have it (do you have walmart in Australia?). Look for pure ammonia or clear ammonia. Check the ingredients on the back and they should say ammonia and water (without much else). Try not to get ammonia with surfactants. If you aren't sure, shake the bottle, if it makes bubbles like soap water leave it, if no bubbles you are good to go. I just finished a fishless cycle and everything is up and running fine. How many gallons is your tank btw?

Also the ammonia should be in the cleaning supplies.

    awsome sounds good.
nope no wall-mart in australia, but i use to work in a grocery store (packing shelves) when i was a bit younger and i do recall seeing products that said "ammonia".
just gota make sure its the right stuff i want like u said.

    My tank in gallons , probably 10 - 15.

Thanks for the quick advise champ :) much appricated!

This may still take a few weeks but I think you will be pleased with the results. What kind of fish are you going to add once the cycle is complete?

Get the generic brand of ammonia. Most places add other things to it now and the cheap stuff doesn't. Dollar Stores carry the pure ammonia but don't know if you have one near you.

Shake the bottle. If it foams, don't get it. Pure ammonia will get a couple of small bubbles on top but will pop. Those with additives will just foam.

Now that I see you're from Aust. this may not work. I heard ammonia is hard to find there. If you're unable to get any, just start over with about 3 or 4 feeder goldfish that are throw aways.
