Swimming upside down isnt good it is
My Male has been sick for some time now I have been putting the Melflex in the water eveyday like directed he sheemed to be doing ok for a couple of days then he went downhill really fast. He is a Crown Tail and he has little ball all on the tips. I don't want him to die. He is either floatin on the top or sunk to the bottom I move him a little bit and he swims around and blows a bubble then sinks again. It looks like he is breathing really hard even with a water chang. Please Help. Thank you.

I started treating him because he was not looking good. He started losing all of his color and started looking like he had a whitish film on him and he would not flare in the mirror. I do water changes around 3 times weeks 1/2 the water he is in a one gallon tank but it is not heated. It is so sad I have been trying really hard to take good care of him then something seemed to happen. Oh yeah I almost forgot right after I noticed he looked sick about a week ago or so when I was doing his water change I found 2 or 3 ants in his tank I have no clue how they got in there and I don't know if that is why he is sick.

Sometime usage of wrong medicine could worsen the situation,,before analyzing what disease your fish has got donot use any medicine.

I saw people recomending that Melafix and from what I read on the bottle it looked like it would help him and it seemed like it was helping at first. I didn't know what else to do.

Well I am sad to say Zues has passed away. I am so sad I had high hopes that he would get better. I don't know what happened he just went downhills so fast today. I was just looking at him a little bit ago and then the next minute he is dead. He looks really weird like where he flares at look like they are sticking out almost but he looks really skinny but I fed him every two or 3 days like it said. I just wish I knew what happened. Well thank you everyone for your help. I have two more females and they are doing good. They are just such beautiful fish. Today is sad he was the prettiest fish I ever have seen.

sorry to hear of your loss. its horrible when a fish dies.
you say you were feeding him every 2nd or 3rd day? who suggesseted that? i feed my three bettas (2 girls/1 boy), a few flakes twice a day. once in the morning once at night. this seems to be enough to keep them in good condition and even had them attempt to breed.
sorry again though.its arkie..... the 6 is silent

If you want to keep another Betta, use a heater with him. Regardless of what people in the shop tell you, they really do best in heated water.
Currently: Spotted Blue-eyes, two species of Australian shrimp, Ornate Rainbowfish, Guppies, Corydoras, goldfish.

Sorry about your Betta. Was he swimming upside down and stuff like that? Like he had no control? He probably had swim bladder. That is caused by overfeeding, and many other things. A heater will help since Bettas like warm water, but I don't think that's what caused him to be sick.
