My busy weekend....the good and the bad. long w/pics

Well i traveled to Ohio this weekend for a family reunion. It was fun. Had a chance to check out a private beach were there was TONS of driftwood. I had to limit my selection to only a few or i probably would have taken them all. This was probably the best part for me during the trip as i'm a driftwood maniac.

I was able to see a Indians game which was fun(they won), Went to Cedar Point for a day. I usually go there once a year with my sister as it's the only amusement park worth going to. Ate WAY too much food. Went to the zoo one day. Not much interested me there other then the fish area. But since i was with other people i had to be quick.

Unfortunately my filter got clogged sometime during the week and wasn't filtering so i lost 3 fish(1 neon, 1 zebra danio, 1 bloodfin i think) and there was a LOT of algae where the bodies were floating. Opened the filter up and cleaned it out and so far it's pumping like it should.

All in all i'm tired and although i had fun i'm glad it's over.

Since i took a LOT of pictures of EVERYTHING i'll just upload them to my photobucket account and whoever wants to look at them are more then welcome.

Very neat driftwood you found! Cool shapes!

I love the zoo... We have a wedding reception at our zoo in July and I'm looking forward to wandering around the zoo for a couple hours before the party starts. ;)

hate to hear about the fish. I am taking a week trip to destin and am already fearing this might happen.

Those are some nice pics there, and some great looking driftwood. I know one can run out of places to put driftwood, so you can always send some my way.

I'm hoping to have a chance to find my own in florida somewhere around destin. If there is any freshwater there.

I'm still not sure if i should sell the driftwood or not. I kind of like having it around but then again i have no use for it.

Lost 3 more fish today....(2 neons and 1 rummynose tetra).

Although i've NEVER been good at keeping fish i just don't know what to do. I think i'll take some water to the LFS and see what they say. I just don't think they know much or care very much to help me out.

All my levels were low, (ammonia, nitrate/nitrite)
pH was still kinda high at 7.8ish but since these fish have been in there a while i have a feeling it isn't that.

What are the toxic levels of phosphate for fish?
how much untreated water would i have to add to make them die(chlorine wise i guess)? All i did yesterday was get the pump working again but i filled it up with sink water(probably 5gallons or so)

Just wondering if maybe the water that was in the canister filter got into the tank and killed the fish? It is a 110g so 5g wouldn't be much.

Took my water to the LFS and they said it was perfect. They said the fish were probably still stressed out about the water quality when the pump wasn't working right and still died the day after i turned it back on. Does this sound right?

what a shame.....i lost a neon today as well. And my water quality is perfect.

Phosphate levels too high could definitely be it. Also remember that tap water from a sink a lot of times contains phosphates as well.
The company i am buying my plants from says that .3 is where the phosphates should be, and the plants will absorb it. If not planted, i would imagine .1 is as high as you need to go.
