white worms????
I have recently rearranged my 5gal that had my betta in it and am using it as a newt tank now. I didn't clean anything, must moved the stones and took out a bunch of the water. I have had the tank set up for the newt for at least a week now. Yesterday I noticed a bunch of these little white wormlike things on the inside of the tank in the water. they are very small/thin, look like a white hair that is alive, lol. they kind of inch along when they move. So my question is....what are they? are they bad? how do i get rid of them? thanks.

If I remember correctly, they are called planaria.

ok, so i googled planaria, still not completely sure that i what they are, but it looks like it might be them. i hope so cause the planaria are harmless, lol....so it means i dont really need to worry about them.

I am assuming they look like this

This could be Planaira or Detritus worms, not harmful to your fish but they do deplete the oxygen so you want to get rid of them. This is caused by having a dirty fish tank, vacuum the gravel and give her a good cleaning, the worms should go away, i know you can get a pleco or a loach and they will eat the worms if they are in the bottom of the tank, but im not sure never did that before.
Like i said the good news is they arent harmful to your fish, but get rid of them.

they are in my newt tank. the only thing in there is the newt, so the low oxygen in the water is not a problem. he hardly ever goes in the water anyway.
those pics kind of look like them. they are very small and thing. they just look like white hairs that move. you cant even tell it is a creature cause its so small. i just see these little hair like lines moving on the wall of the tank.10 gal tropical tank (mainly snails w/7 fish), 5 rats, 4 parakeets, 1 senegal parrot, 2 degus, 1 snake, 1 blue tongue skink, 3 mice, 1 rabbit, 1 ferret, 5 cats, 1 dog
