fish ID help please
cichlid? hybrid bass/bluegill? no idea. Cannot find anything close on internet. Appreciate suggestions. The scales have a greenish blue tint like a bluegill but the mouth is nothing like a bluegill. Black dot on gill cover like a bluegill though not visible in pic

I dont think this is a bluegill. Hes the right shape but hes a little too pale and the blue dots arent typical either. Id say its some kind of Cichlid, im checking around, but someone probably knows and will chime in before i get it done. Where did you get it?

That sure looks like a bluegill to me. Probably a juvenile, which is why his traits are all 100% like they should be. I've seen hundreds while fish sampling and juveniles look just like that.
Where did you get him?My AC Fish Gallery:

Maybe thats what makes the blue stand out, yea ive been fishing them my whole life and ive never seen one that pale. Im wondering where he got it, if he caught it out of a stream and just put it into a bucket of freshwater that could be why its so pale.

I dont think blue gill neccesarily, but Im pretty sure that is a type of sunfish. But prob not bluegill.
Loook into the Lepomis species. Its probably one of thoseCORRECTED video of my fish. This link works. For sure. Really.

sure its not a bluegill
but perhaps a hybrid. bluegill mated with some specie of bass maybe. The shape is much more basslike honestly. Looks short in the photo but panfish have a steepness above the mouth. We have what we call rock bass in our waters locally and its a cross between sunfish and largemouth bass so I can see any sort of crossbreeding possible. But as for how I got it, it came with 9 silver comet feeders and I didnt notice it until the comets were all consumed and the piranha was making a ruckus trying to catch this little guy. Extremely fast and aggressive. I put two tequila sunrises in with him and he tortured them relentlessly. Behaves like a cichlid. Quick starts and stops. Thiis fish had to be shipped from a local hatchery with the comets by the thousands and no one nooticed. Not even at the pet store where they bagged him. I didnt notice til the next day. I still think it may be a cichlid but never seen any marked like it. Ill try and get a better pic for yall later tonight.

The body shape is typical of young bluegills, they look a different shape when they are mature, but i still have my reserves about saying for sure its a blue gill.

If he's as small as most comet goldfish, it's definatly a juvenile. Panfish don't get that big round look until they mature.
Try getting him under some good lights and feed him plenty of invertebrates. He should color up nicely. Bluegills are really dazzling fish when nicely colored. My AC Fish Gallery:
