Thread: Val Shoots

  1. Default Val Shoots

Sorry I didn't post this in a seperate forum... I couldn't figure out where Vals fit in the types of plants. :)

My Vals are sending off lots of shoots, and the shoots are now growing really nicely. My question is, is there any reason to cut the runners to make seperate plants, or can I just leave them attached the way they are?
35 Gallon (36" Long) See my tank pics and stats: My Blog
Plants: Amazon Swords, Cabombas, Jungle Vals, Water Wisterias, Java Moss, Java Ferns
Fish: 6 Bronze Cories, 10 Harlequin Rasboras, 3 Sunset Thick-Lipped Gouramis, 4 (tiny) Keyhole Cichlids, 6 Otos, 1 or 2 Ghost Shrimp

    Side effects of MTS:
65 Gallon, 10 Gallon, 29 Gallon (all empty or cycling)

I know i cut my chain sword runners and non of them have put off runners of their own yet...after 2-3 months.

So it you're satisfied with the amount of vals you have you could cut them to see if it'll slow growth a little now but i'm sure i'll just get worse later on. If not it'll just keep putting out runner after runner.

I think once they have roots of their own they should be able to get established and cutting the cord shouldn't kill them or anything.

If you want to move them the cut the runner, if not, just leave them alone absorbed nutrients will be shared by all the plants that are connected
As I get older I find myself thinking about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

OK thanks! I figured as much but wanted to make sure. I still want more to grow, and will probably just cut them when I want some in the 65.
